I never planned to acquire trademark domain names. I looked just to make sure the big brands had in-fact secured all their own names. This is the first new top level extension since dot com so I expected the biggest brands would have moved quickly. To my surprise Google & Microsoft hadn't even turned up so they got hosed.
Facebook and Meta were bullet proof. They had already secured every possible combination. They were faster than the others to get what is rightfully theirs. Their intellectual property. Meta, Amazon and Apple all moved to cover their brands while Microsoft and Google didn't notice their brand was on sale.
Amazon hadn't thought of everything and Apple left the door open a little. But Microsoft and Google were fast asleep. I secured what they didn't seem to want at the time. Then I realised others were asleep. PayPal, MasterCard, NIKE, Sony etc which meant I needed to secure those too.
I feel that I was doing a job they hadn't considered yet. I felt that someone needed to take the lead to protect these valuable brands. So I took on the role of a trademark guardian. Very few people understand what these are. I didn't ask for permission, I'll ask for forgiveness if necessary. But the problem has been solved before it became known. For MS and Google there is no problem now.
It is not illegal to grab available trademark domains if you have no intention of using them. There is no need for hostility as we are willing participants to ensure these domain names get to their rightful owners. Google and Microsoft will eventually be interested domain names that align with their brands.
